Lent Challenge

Felicity’s Lent challenges to us:

1) In the wilderness Jesus was tempted to misuse power. [Luke 4 1-13] What power do we have and how could we be tempted to misuse it? [This might mean just the power within our own household]    Resolve to use power for good at least once during Lent. One idea is to write a campaigning letter, or an encouraging card to someone who is suffering. For example, go to www.amnesty.org.uk or opendoorsuk.org for ideas and templates…they make it easy!

2) In ancient times God rescued his people from slavery in Egypt and led them to freedom in the Promised Land. They were never to forget this and in gratitude were to offer the precious First Fruits of the harvest to God. We live in a money based society, what does the principle of First Fruits mean to us as we plan our giving to church and to other causes? [Deuteronomy 26 1-11]

3) Paul writes, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 14But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? [Romans 10 13b-14]    We know that we sit on great wealth, our knowledge of our loving heavenly Father and of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. By and large, people are unaware of their need of God and not interested in our message. However, children often are. How can you support our work in sharing our message with children?
